Ozius expands and strengthens capabilities through its advanced Earth Observation innovation and rapid RnD business unit, Ozius Labs.

Ozius Labs brings together three of Australia’s leaders in Earth Observation and Environmental Analytics with Dr Stuart Phinn and Dr Peter Scarth joining forces with Ozius founder Alisa Starkey.

“Ozius is extremely fortunate to welcome two of the best applied earth observation professionals in Australia to Ozius Labs”, said Ozius founder Alisa Starkey.

Stuart and Peter each bring over 20 years of experience in earth observation and environmental science, and are able to build on their substantive research experience for their roles in Ozius Labs. Their Ozius Labs activities are in addition to their roles at the University of Queensland’s Remote Sensing Research Centre and Joint Remote Sensing Research Program.

Stuart will provide direction for Ozius Labs projects by leveraging his 26 years of experience integrating satellite and airborne imaging systems with field measurements for mapping and monitoring of terrestrial and marine environments and their dynamics. Stuart works across the interface of the next generation of earth observation applications in science, industry and government in Australia and internationally.

Peter brings twenty years’ experience in large scale landscape monitoring and data science. Working with the broad availability of ubiquitous computing and the increasing democratisation of remote sensing data, Peter sees many opportunities to build cross disciplinary analytic solutions for social and environmental applications.

“As Ozius takes our customers deeper into advanced Earth Observation analytics, their appetite for new knowledge of their environment and operations is growing, and they are embracing more complex analytics to support their operational decision making”, said Alisa Starkey.

Ozius Labs (OL)will focus on solving complex problems for customers seeking bespoke solutions.  At its core OL will seek to advance knowledge of natural and human systems by leveraging earth observation science and deep analytics.

“The focus of Australia’s new Space Agency on building industry capacity and solving global challenges is critical to its success and longevity”, said Stuart Phinn. “At Ozius Labs we’ll be focused on solving global challenges by creating customer driven solutions to improve understanding and knowledge of the natural environment. “

Ozius Labs will support Ozius’ existing and future analytics as a service capabilities by:

  • working with customers to solve problems in the public realm and assisting enterprise to quantify environmental and social license obligations in complex natural environments;
  • undertaking rapid research, development and deployment of applied technologies and products with a focus on earth observation science, data fusion and deep analytics;
  • addressing the need for the continued advancement of applied science in solving the more complex problems faced by public and private sector customers.
